Albert was a son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin and friend to many.

Albert was born March 30, 1953, to the late Percy Collins Sr. and Luella Collins in Rolling Fork Miss. Albert was the seventh child born to this union.

 

He moved from Rolling Fork with his family to Chicago, then during his young adult years moved to Michigan.

 

On July 24, 1976, Albert was united in marriage to Sharon Kirkland. From that union two children were born, Brooke Nychelle Collins and Dane Albert Collins.

 

Oct. 23, 1988, Albert accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at Second Baptist Church under the leadership of the Rev. H. C. Smith.

 

Albert enjoyed singing, dancing, wiping down his cars, hanging with his brothers and most of all he loved his grandbabies.

 

Albert moved in 2002 to St. Louis, Mo., where he was employed at Live Development Support Center. He loved his job and his residents.

 

Albert reunited with Christ Oct. 2, 2005, at Trinity Mount Carmel under the leadership of Pastor Charles Roach.  On Aug. 11, 2007, he married Paulette Scott, whom he loved dearly until he was granted his wings to heaven.

 

Albert leaves to cherish beautiful memories: his wife, Paulette Collins of St. Louis; his mother, Luella Collins of Dowagiac; two children, Brooke Collins and Dane Collins, both of Paw Paw; two grandchildren, Kevion Collins-Allen and JaKya Collins-Rimpson both of Kalamazoo; three sisters, Alice (Amos Sr.) Clark and Brenda (Steve) Collins both of Dowagiac, and Linda White of Kentucky; six brothers, Henry (Peggy) Collins and Terry (Robin) Collins, both of St. Louis, O’Larry Sr. (Mildred) Collins of Dowagiac, Jerry Sr. (Ann) Collins of Chicago, Charles (Angela) Collins of Decatur, Ga., and Earl (Vary) Collins of Rolling Fork; Jean Collins ,sister-in-law of Chicago, and Frankie (Jimmy) Hall of Rochester, N.Y.; an ex-wife and friend, Sharon Collins; very special father-in-law, Robert Kirkland; sister-in-law, Pam Kirkland; and a host of nieces and nephews.

 

Albert is preceded in death by: his father Percy Sr.; a brother, Percy Jr.; grandparents, Albert and Alice Dillard; and his mother-in-law, Hattie Kirkland.

 

Albert went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, May 21, 2013, surrounded by his supportive and loving family.

 

His family will gather with friends on Thursday, May 30, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Yazel-Clark Chapel, ending with a prayer at 7 p.m.

 

His home-going services will be 1 p.m. on Friday, May 31, at Second Baptist Church under the direction of the Elder Henry Collins.  He will be laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery following the service.  Memorial contributions in his name may be directed to the family in care of Brooke Collins.
