LMC students to present sophomore recitals

BENTON TOWNSHIP — Three Lake Michigan College Music department students will present sophomore recitals this spring. Jaeho Lee, baritone, will perform at 6 p.m. on Friday, May 31; Gregory Binger, cello, and Kendall Walker, baritone, will perform at 7 p.m. on Saturday, June 1. Both programs will take place in LMC’s Hanson Theatre, at the Mendel Center for Arts & Technology on the Napier Avenue Campus in Benton Harbor. Admission is free.

Jaeho Lee, a native of South Korea, studies vocal music with LMC adjunct instructor Bradley Krueger, and plans to attend Indiana University in Bloomington in the fall. Lee first studied voice at the Istituto Musicale Gaspare Spontini in Italy in 2009. He came to the United States in 2011 to study vocal music at Andrews University, where he played the Pirate King in the opera Pirates of Penzance. He also attended VOICExperience in Florida under the direction of Grammy Award-winning Metropolitan Opera artist Sherrill Milnes. Lee’s recital will include operatic works by Schubert, Verdi, and Bizet, and he will be accompanied by Paul Flyger.

Greg Binger of St. Joseph studies applied cello with LMC adjunct instructor Luke Cook, and will attend Western Michigan University in the fall to study music education. He has been a member of the LMC Chamber Players and the String Ensemble, and performed in the pit orchestra for the LMC musical theatre production of the 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. Scholarships he received from the College have included the Board of Trustees Music Scholarship, The Gene Harris Memorial Scholarship, The Shalon Foundation Scholarship, and the Dr. Elfie Schults-Berndt Scholarship, and he has received transfer and music program scholarships from WMU. LMC recently presented him with the 2012-2013 Outstanding Musician Award. Binger’s recital will include works by J.S. Bach, Saint-Saens, and Faure. His accompanist is Paul Flyger.

Kendall Walker of Bridgman graduated this spring from LMC with an Associate in Arts degree, majoring in music. Walker plans to transfer to Western Michigan University in the fall, where he will pursue a degree in choral music education and Spanish. He currently studies voice with Bradley Krueger. His accompanist for the recital is Kellie Meyer.
