BENTON TOWNSHIP — The Lake Michigan College Music Department will hold entrance and scholarship auditions for new music students in June. Auditions will be heard in room MC-103 of the LMC Mendel Center for Arts & Technology on the College’s Napier Avenue campus in Benton Harbor.

The college requires auditions for students to be considered for entrance into the music program, for non-music majors who wish to join an ensemble or take applied lessons and for interested community members who want to join an ensemble.

LMC offers a music major program that provides the first two years of a four-year degree program leading to careers in music education, music therapy, music business, composition and arranging, and church music. Many non-majors and community members participate in LMC’s music ensembles and classes. Performance opportunities include the Concert Choir and Voices LMC under the direction of Daniel Hendrickson, the LMC Jazz Band under the direction of Christopher Keech, the LMC Chamber Players under the direction of Christina Gibson, the String Ensemble under the direction of Beth Oeseburg, and the Southshore Concert Band under the direction of Dale Reuss.

The music department awards Board of Trustee music scholarships to students that meet academic requirements, are musically talented, wish to major or minor in music, and are interested in participating in LMC’s ensembles and music classes. The music department also awards performance scholarships to new and returning students, regardless of degree, to help cover the cost of ensemble tuition and fees or applied lessons.

Students may also complete for an additional 15 music and endowed scholarships.  All music department scholarships are renewable for up to four semesters, pending the maintenance of academic and music standards.

Anyone who wants further information about LMC music program scholarships or classes, or to schedule an audition time, should call the Performing Arts office at (269) 927-8876.  For a comprehensive listing of grants and scholarships available to LMC students, visit http://www.lakemichigancollege.edu/scholarships.
