Marlin L. Eddy, 74, of Eau Claire, died Wednesday evening, May 15, 2013, at Lakeland Specialty Hospital in Berrien Center.

According to his wishes, cremation has taken place.  A Memorial Service will be held at noon on Saturday, June 1, at the Niles Elk Lodge, 1322 Canal Street (near Plym Park Golf Course), with a visitation from 11 a.m. until service time.  Bowerman Funeral Home, Eau Claire, is serving the family, and online messages may be left at www.bowermanfuneral.com.  Memorial contributions may be made to Elks Major Projects for Handicapped Children.

Marlin was born July 24, 1938, in Buchanan, Mich., the son of George and Joyce (Kohlmann) Eddy.  He graduated from Buchanan High School in 1956, and he studied Liberal Arts at Central Michigan University for two and a half years.  On June 18, 1971, he married Betty J. Zelmer at Trinity Lutheran Church in Berrien Springs, where he was a member.  He had worked for National Standard in Niles for 22 years, taking an early retirement in 1989.

Marlin and Betty enjoyed spending winters in Florida.  He was an avid golfer, and he also enjoyed hunting and fishing with his father-in-law and nephews.  He was a 20-year member of the German DANK, and was also a member of the Buchanan Moose Lodge.

Marlin was a very active and dedicated member of the B.P.O.E. Niles Lodge 1322, which he joined in 1970.  He held many positions within the Elks, both on the District and State levels, including becoming an Exalted Ruler in 1978-79, serving as a State Trustee for six years, and serving as Michigan State President in 1998-99.  Marlin was a member of the Michigan Elks Bowling Association, where he was a member of the Executive Committee, numerous District Chairmanships, and President of both Michigan and National Elks Bowling Associations.  He also was a member of the Grand Lodge B.P.O. Elks.

Survivors include his wife, Betty; brother, Lynn Eddy; sister, Murriel Ivins; aunt, Pat Kohlmann; cousins, Connie Wright and Tom Kohlmann; nieces, April (Kevin) Plank and their daughter Britney, May Ellen Sample, and Pam Eddy; and nephews, Eric Sample, Nate Eddy, and John Eddy.
