A couple of record-setting performances highlighted the Brandywine boys track team’s efforts at the Division 3 Regional Track Meet Friday night.

Evan Hartman will get a chance to defend his state championship in the discus after breaking his own school record twice during the regionals, which were hosted by the Bobcats.

Courtlan Gordon broke Jared Owens’ 1997 record in the 200-meters and then turned in a gutty performance in the anchor leg of the 1,600-meter relay to cap the night.

Hartman, who has only been out for track for two year, threw 177-5 with his first toss of the finals to break his previous best mark of 175-5. But he wasn’t done yet. He then heaved the discus 179-3 to come up a few inches short of his goal of hitting 180 Friday night.

Gordon was a three-time qualifier for the Bobcats.

He finished second in the 400-meters with a time of 51.87 and then set a new standard for Brandywine in the 200 with a time of 22.5. Owens set the record with a time of 22.6.

His anchor leg in the 1,600 relay was inspiring. He and relay mates Nathan Anders, Andrew Duckett and Michael Shelton came in second with a season-best time of 3:29.46.

“Just the thought of breaking the school record really pumped me up,” Gordon said. “I really wanted to get first. Put those together, and I was flying. I got off to a good start. Everything was perfect. It feels awesome to get the record.”

Anders was also a three-time qualifier as he finished third in the 110-meter high hurdles (15.57) and second in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles (41.45).

Cassopolis’ Evan Brown will compete in the state finals in the 100- and 200-meters after finished third and second respectively in the events Friday night.

Buchanan’s Brianna Dinneen was the star of the girls meet as she qualified for the state finals in four events once again.

She easily won the 100- and 200-meters, while she also qualified for 400-meters and the long jump.

Dinnenn’s time of 12.25 in the 100-meters broke her own school record of 12.4 she set last year in finishing second at the state meet.

Cassopolis’ Brianna Coleman advanced to the state finals in the 100- and 200-meters. Kaylyn Forrest also qualified in the 200-meters by finishing third, while the Rangers’ 400-meter relay team of Coleman, Kortenei Suggs, Jayne Butts and Forrest advanced with a second place finish.
