Niles police looking for hit and run driver

Police are investigating a hit-and-run accident that occurred Sunday evening on U.S. 12 in Milton Township.

According to Michigan State Police, a vehicle traveling east on U.S. 12 was struck by the suspect vehicle, which failed to yield while turning west onto U.S. 12 from Bell Road at 6:20 p.m. The suspect vehicle then fled the scene.

The collision caused the other vehicle to roll over twice. The occupants sustained minor injuries. Police said seat belt use and a child restraint system were instrumental in preventing serious injuries.

Witnesses described the suspect vehicle as a red extended cab pickup with silver trim along the bottom. No make, model or registration plate information is known at this time.

The suspect is a white male approximately 45 years of age. The vehicle was last seen traveling east on Worrell Road.
