The Niles Vikings edged Berrien Springs 3-1 in a game that was called after five innings due to weather.

The second game of the scheduled doubleheader was cancelled when a thunderstorm rolled through the area.

The Shamrocks were never able to get over the hump and overcome its troubles against the Niles Thursday after falling behind by three runs in the third inning.

Berrien Springs scored one run in the fourth on an error.

It was a good day at the plate for the Vikings’ Tate Brawley. Brawley went 2-for-3 and scored one run. He singled in the first inning and doubled in the third inning.

Jake Brentlinger was in control on the rubber. The Shamrocks managed just one hit off of the Niles pitcher, who allowed no earned runs, walked two and struck out six during his five innings of work.

Niles never trailed after scoring one run in the first on an RBI single by Connor Glick.

The Vikings built upon their lead with two runs in the third. A sacrifice fly scored Tate Rudlaff to start the scoring in the inning. That was followed up by a Taylor Wedley’s triple, bringing home Glick.
