The Dowagiac softball team split a pair of non-conference games with visiting Bridgman Thursday.

The Bees edged the Chieftains 2-0 in the first game. Dowagiac rebounded to win the second game 10-5.

“We played better defense tonight overall,” Dowagiac coach Mike Behnke said. “But one error cost us in the first game as it led to the winning run. They only had two hits and two walks and the error to account for their baserunners, but unfortunately for us it all happened in the same inning.

“In the second game, we came out more focused with our bats and hit the ball hard. We are still trying to put all phases of the game together at one time so we can start winning more games.”

Sabrina Ruiz took the loss in the first game despite tossing a two-hitter.

McKenzie Herter had two of Dowagiac’s three hits.

In the nightcap, Alyssa Allen scattered seven hits to earn the victory in the circle.

Amanda Craft was 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI, while Rachel Bailey was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.

Kourtney Mitchell was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Emily Roach added a double and two RBIs, while Kristyn Turner singled and drove in a run.
