Dowagiac remains winless after falling to Wildcats

THREE RIVERS – The Dowagiac baseball team was swept by Three Rivers in Wolverine Conference West Division action Friday.

The Wildcats won the first game 5-2 and then dropped a heartbreaking 1-0 decision in the nightcap.

Cody Froehlich pitched the first three and a third innings for the Chieftains and took the loss. He allowed four runs on three hits. Cole Wiker worked the final two and two-third innings, allowing one run on two hits.

Brett Scanlon had a single and a double for the Chieftains, who also got a triple from Austin Broda.

In the nightcap, Three Rivers scored the game’s only run in the fourth inning.

Cal Cox went the distance for Dowagiac. He did not allow an earned run and struck out eight.

“It was good to be in both games right up to the end,” Dowagiac coach Bob Turner said. “We are making some progress. Both games could have gone either way.”

The Chieftains are now 0-11 on the season and 0-5 in the West Division.
