The Edwardsburg girls soccer team hosted its annual Eddies Invitational Saturday and unfortunately for the home team, it went 0-2 on the day in games against Three Rivers and Lakeshore.
In the first match, the Eddies fell behind quickly giving up two quick goals in the first 10 minutes of the game to Three Rivers’ Lindsey Seifert and Alicia Schmidtendorff and could never rally back from the early deficit losing 3-1.
Despite giving up yet another goal in the first three-minutes of the second half, Edwardsburg had a slew of good chances to get back in the game. The Eddies’ Ally McIntee scored a goal with 24-minutes left to play to give her team a chance but the damage the Wildcats had already caused could not be undone.
The second game against Lakeshore was a real heartbreaker for the Eddies as they lost 1-0 on an own goal to the Lancers in an extremely defensive battle.
With just under 13 minutes remaining in the first half, the Lancers’ Carley Dubbert attempted a crossing lob pass to attacking teammate Rachael LaManna but in a stroke of misfortune for Edwardsburg the ball hit right off of Eddie defender Rachel Boyles and ricocheted into the back of the net for the deciding goal.
Lakeshore would go on to beat Three Rivers by the score of 3-0 to win its second consecutive Eddie Invitational title.
The Eddies will return to action on Monday when they take on Wolverine Conference opponent Coloma at 5 p.m. in Edwardsburg.
