BERRIEN SPRINGS – The Brandywine softball team ran its winning streak to 12 games with a sweep of Berrien Springs Wednesday afternoon.

The Bobcats defeated the Shamrocks 9-1 and 5-0 to improve to 14-3 on the season.

Mikayla Kemp struck out eight batters to lift Bobcats to the win over Berrien Springs in the opener.

The Bobcats defeated the Shamrocks thanks to nine hits, including two extra base hits. Brandywine scored three runs in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Makenna Hartline, an RBI double by Justine Sater and a passed ball.

Makenna Hartline reached base two times in the game for Bobcats. She scored two runs and had one RBI.

Bobcats stayed on top until the final out after taking the lead in the second, scoring two runs on an error and a groundout by Maranda Smallmon.

Bobcats scored two runs in the third inning and then followed it up with two more in the sixth. In the third, Bobcats scored on an error, bringing home Makenna Hartline.

In the nightcap, Sater had two extra base hits, helping Bobcats to the victory.

She singled in the first inning, doubled in the third inning and tripled in the seventh inning.

The Bobcats’ Kemp kept Berrien Springs off the scoreboard for all seven innings. She pitched a shutout, allowing no runs on four hits while striking out three.

The game’s last lead went to Brandywine thanks to a second inning rally that saw two runs cross the plate on an error and an RBI single by Katelyn Dolgos.

Bobcats scored one run in each of the third, sixth and seventh. In the third, Bobcats scored on a groundout by Michaela Hartline, scoring Sater.
