SOUTH BEND — Hannah Martinez recorded a hat trick as host Granger Christian defeated Dowagiac in non-league soccer Friday, 9-1.

The match was stopped in the 71st minute due to the eight-goal mercy rule.

Dowagiac averted the shutout in the 54th minute as Amanda Hassle scored.

“We were just outmanned,” Dowagiac coach Craig Black said. “Granger has some very talented players with a lot of speed. With some key players missing, we played defense most of the game.”

The Chieftains will host Coloma Wednesday in a Wolverine Conference West Division match beginning at 5 p.m.
