ST. JOSEPH — The Dowagiac softball team continues to struggle making plays defensively and it cost it again Monday afternoon.

The visiting Chieftains were swept by St. Joseph 10-3 and 5-1.

“Not making routine plays continues to kill us on defense,” Dowagiac coach Mike Behnke said. “We made three errors in the first inning of the first game and gave all six runs away. Out of 15 runs St. Joe scores, only five were earned. If we start making routine plays and put all aspects of the game together at the same time, then we will be very competitive.”

Kourtney Mitchell, Alyssa Allen and Kristyn Turner each had a hit in the first game. Allen drove in two runs.

In the nightcap, Emily Roach was 2-for-3. Amanda Craft and Corinne Kasper also had hits.
