Mabel Sheteron, 88, of Cassopolis, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, in Cass County Medical Care Facility.

She was born Dec. 17, 1924, in St. Joseph County, Ind., to Menno and Nora (Weldy) Richer, the fourth of nine children. She married Donald Irven Sheteron on April 12, 1947, in St. Joseph County, Ind. He preceded her in death March 13, 2010.

She was also preceded by one grandson, Joseph Norton Sheteron; one sister, Katherine Whitmyer; and five brothers, Lowell Richer, Virgil Richer, Silas Richer, Joseph Richer and Charles Richer.

Mabel was a loyal keeper of five children. She made sure they all went to church and were introduced to God. She volunteered at the school while her children were growing up and served as president of the PTA. Mabel was a member of the Cassopolis Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 237 until it closed in 1995. She then joined and was an active member of the Edwardsburg O.E.S. Chapter 476.

She and her husband enjoyed doing things together and going places. After her husband retired, they enjoyed camping in Evart. She lived a simple but productive life.

Mabel will be greatly missed by family and friends. She is survived by one daughter, Sharon (Don) LeVan,  of White Pigeon; four sons, Larry (Betty Lynn) Sheteron, of Edwardsburg, Tex (Nancy) Sheteron, of Cassopolis, Donald Sheteron Jr., of Vandalia, and Alan (Becky) Sheteron, of Cassopolis; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren (with one on the way); and two sisters, Norma (Richard) Green, of Elkhart, and Evelyn (John) Blucker, of Sturgis.

Family and friends will gather for a graveside service on Saturday, May 4, at 1 p.m. in Reames and Norton Cemetery, Cassopolis, where her remains will be laid to rest beside those of her late husband, Donald Sheteron Sr.
