Died: April 23, 2013

Alma Bierwagen passed into the arms of her Lord on April 23, 2013. Alma was born Feb. 15, 1921, in Cloverport, Ky. She was the youngest and was preceded in death by three brothers, three sisters, her parents, Mary and Andrew Burke, and her husband, Bert Bierwagen.

Alma moved to the Michiana area in 1939 and married Bert Bierwagen in 1957.

Travel, dinner shows and gardening were the things she enjoyed the most. Alma worked for Clements Trucking and Simplicity Patterns. She was a devoted Catholic

and a member of St. Mary’s Parish in Niles. Alma’s special calling was the Christian Service, where she scheduled volunteers and helped distribute food.

Alma was a wonderful wife and a beloved aunt. She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Pat Burke, Andrew Burke, Juanita Nelson, Bob Bierwagen and

Leland Edwards, of Indiana, James Hoctel, of Wisconsin, Roseann Gordon, of North Carolina, Cheryl Getta, of New York, Marcella Schellhas, of Minnesota; Lennie Bierwagen, Connie Bierwagen, David Bierwagen, and Daniel Ridens, of Michigan, Susan Marvel, Mary Cox and Beverly Bierwagen, of Florida.

There are also great-nieces and nephews. Alma is also survived by her sister-in-law and dear friend Marilyn Bierwagen. Your friends and family will miss you!!!

Viewing will be from 6 to 8 p.m. at Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles,  April 30. A Celebration of Life Mass will be held at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church May 1, 2013. In leu of flowers, please make donation in Alma’s name to the ChristianService Center at St. Mary’s Church Niles.
