Niles softball team finding its groove

BRIDGMAN – While the Niles softball team has had its hands full with Big 16 West Division competition so far this season, the Vikings are having very little trouble with non-league teams.

Niles followed up Wednesday’s sweep of Dowagiac with a sweep of host Bridgman Thursday afternoon.

The Vikings won the first game 10-0 behind the two-hit pitching of Megan McKeel. Niles completed the sweep with a 13-1 win in the nightcap.

“We played well and all did our jobs tonight with no let down,” Niles coach Ryan Frontzak said. “I am very proud of our girls. As a team we had two triples, six  doubles, 16 singles and only gave up two hits in a doubleheader. I thought we came out ready to go tonight and did not stop until the doubleheader was over.

“I was worried coming into this game having played more games this week than we have played all year so far and we did well. Our pitching did a good job also with only two combined hits and five walks. I don’t like the five walks and we will keep working on that, but we did a good job in the circle. We have a big weekend up ahead and can’t wait for our team to play even more softball.”

Olivia Jordan tripled for the Vikings in the first game, while Tala Gentry had a triple in the nightcap.
