Brandywine softball takes two from Mustangs

The Brandywine softball team battled both cold temperatures and cold bats to win a pair of games in a non-league doubleheader against River Valley on a chilly Wednesday at home.

The Bobcats picked up an 11-1 victory in the first game despite only recording six hits. Five out of those six hits were by twin sisters Michaela and Makenna Hartline. Makenna had three RBI on two hits, while Michaela had two RBI on two hits with a triple.

Brandywine pitcher Mikayla Kemp had nine strikeouts in the winning effort.

The second game would see the Lady Cats shake off a slow start. An injury to their starting pitcher and an error-filled last couple of innings to come out with an 11-6 victory.

With Kemp going down with an ankle injury just before the beginning of third, reserve pitcher Hannah Hadden entered the game and threw 91 pitches and fanned five batters.

Justine Sater and Makenna (Hartline) each had two RBIs and Hadden and Ayralynn Lasane each added an RBI in the winning effort.

Brandywine will hit the diamond again Friday when they host Eau Claire in a doubleheader slated to begin at 4 p.m.
