Niles girls track team edges Lancers

STEVENSVILLE – The visiting Niles girls track team defeated Lakeshore 83-80 in a SMAC West Division dual Monday.

The Vikings got trio of first place finishes from Maya Brookins and Elyse Zimmerman. Both won individual events and then combined forces to help Niles win both the 800- and 400-meter relays.

Zimmerman won the 100-meters with a time of 13.25. Brookins won the 200-meters with a clocking of 27.63.

The two were joined by Paige Chaffin and LaShonda Green in the 800-meters to run a time of 1:51.99. Asiah Brookins and Antonia Palmer were the other two members of the winning 400-meter relay team that posted a time of 53.69.

Niles also won the 1,600-meter relay with a time of 4:36.68. Not all the names were reported for the squad.

Niles also got first place finishes in the field events from Ashley Love in the long jump (15-8.75 and Emma Doud in the shot put (34-3).

The Niles boys team was defeated by the Lancers 124.5-38.5.

The Vikings had just two first place finishers – Derek Scott in the shot put and the 3,200-meter relay team.

Scott threw 46-6 to win the shot, while the team of Alexander, Sean Craig, Graham Hoppstock and Derek Brown posted a time of 8:46.85.
