The Dowagiac girls’ soccer team was hoping that Mother Nature would take the night off Wednesday so that they would be able to play their game against visiting Comstock.

Sadly, she was not completely compliant for the Chieftains.

The two teams were able to get in 27 minutes of the Wolverine Conference non-divisional match before the weather shut them down; and in that small time frame, the Chieftains found themselves in a couple of precarious positions.

First, was the loss of their starting goalie Nichole Favela, who went down with an apparent knee injury just seven minutes into the match. Dowagiac’s backup goalie Jessica Ausra manned the position admirably in Favela’s absence, making several saves on nice scoring chances by the Colts.

Despite Ausra’s strong play, Comstock’s Amanda Clapper was able to strike home a ball into the back of the net in the game’s 17th minute. The Chieftain’s would make a few nice runs at the Colts’ net over the next 10 minutes, but couldn’t even the score before the weather made it an early night.

Because the game was called before an entire half was played; the game will not be scored officially. If the schools were to reschedule, the game would start over as if it hadn’t been played to that point.

There was no confirmation on whether or not the match would be rescheduled.

Dowagiac will hit the pitch again Friday when the Chieftains host Bridgman at 5 p.m.
