A semi-truck driver was cited for driving under the influence after his vehicle left the roadway, striking trees in Berrien County Monday afternoon.

Serhiy Heorhiyev, 40, of Fort Worth, Texas, drove off I-94 near Kruger Road in New Buffalo Township at approximately 3:58 p.m. It took several hours for authorities to remove the truck from the ditch, causing westbound traffic on I-94 to be detoured.

An uninjured Heorhiyev was arrested for driving while intoxicated in a commercial vehicle.

The Berrien County Sheriff’s Dept. road patrol was assisted by Michigan State Police Pokagon Tribal Police, Three Oaks Police, New Buffalo Township Fire and Chikaming Township Fire.
