Dowagiac senior D.J. Hunt has selected Trine University to continue his academic and athletic career.

Hunt, the seventh Dowagiac senior to announce his college plans, will be going to a very successful football program that has a rich history of recruiting players from southwest Michigan and in particular Cass and Berrien counties.

Trine is 38-7 over the last four years and has won three Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association championships. From 2008 through 2010, Trine was undefeated in the MIAA and reached the national playoffs.

Hunt, who is a two-time All-Wolverine Conference performer and a Division 4 All-State special mention selection, said he was glad that the recruiting process was over.

He made his final decision after watching the Trine spring game last weekend.

“They have been contacting me since my junior year,” Hunt said. “They have always been there and they are probably the school that recruited me the hardest. And then when I went down there, they made me feel like I was part of the family even before I committed.

“I just feel like the atmosphere of a small town, it’s not too big kind of like Dowagiac and it’s not too far so my friends and family can come watch me play.”

Hunt also took a look at Siena Heights, Michigan Tech, Defiance, Hope and Grand Valley.

“There were a lot of schools, but those are kind of the ones I had narrowed it down to.”

Hunt is the son of Danum and Lori Hunt.
