Honors keep rolling in for Highsmith, Kozinski, Brown

The honors keep rolling in for Dowagiac’s Dontel Highsmith, Edwardsburg’s Josh Kozinski and Niles’ Alec Brown.

Highsmith and Kozinski were both named to the Detroit Free Press Class B All-State team over the weekend.

Highsmith finished fifth in the Mr. Basketball voting this season after leading the Chieftains to an 18-3 overall record. He led southwest Michigan with an average of 29.1 points per game. His 1,969 points make him the all-time leading scorer.

Highsmith, who will continue his career at Northern Illinois, was also named to the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan’s “BCAM’S Best of the Best” squad.

Kozinski, who is Edwardsburg’s all-time leading scorer with 1,578 points, was named first team Class B All-State by the Free Press and first team All-State and BCAM.

Kozinski, who was second in southwest Michigan in scoring with an average of 23.1, will play at Central Michigan University next season.

Both Highsmith and Kozinski were named first team Class B All-State by the Associated Press.

Niles senior Alec Brown was named first team Class A All-State by BCAM. He was an honorable mention selection by the Associated Press last month.

Brown averaged 20.7 points per game for the Vikings.
