Christopher Benton Phillips, 63

Christopher Benton Phillips, 63, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 20, 2013, at his brother’s home, 9050 Cedar Grove Road, Fairvern, Ga. He previously lived in Savannah.

Chris was born July 29, 1949, in Dowagiac to Roger and Shirley (Suits) Phillips.

He graduated from high school in Dowagiac. He also attended Atlanta School of Art in Atlanta, Ga.

Chris eventually became a brick, stone and marble mason who did extensive work in the Atlanta and Savannah areas.

He also enjoyed extensive traveling throughout Europe in his earlier years and enjoyed telling many fascinating stories about his various experiences.

He enjoyed being a Boy Scout leader, had a special gift for artwork, made pottery, was well read and loved the great outdoors.

Chris is survived by: his mother, Shirley Phillips of Dowagiac; his brother Kevin; his sister, Melody (Donald) Murray of Yabulu, Queensland, Australia; daughters, Macey, Haley and Ivy; son, Benton Taylor; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Burial will take place later.
