Sharon Kay Hill, 73

Sharon Kay Hill, 73, of Elkhart, passed away Sunday, March 31, 2013 at the Hospice House of Elkhart County.  Sharon was born April 15, 1939 in Volinia Township, Michigan to the late Ken and Marie (Thursby) Jessup.  On June 15, 1963, she married Stewart Hill.  They would have celebrated 50 years of marriage this coming June 15.

Stewart survives, along with their children, Timothy P. Hill (Erin Fischer) of Ft. Wayne, and Rebecca “Becky” (Chris) Phelan of South Bend.  Sharon is also survived by her sister Arlene Wright of Cassopolis, Mich., and her grandchildren Ryan and Rachel Phelan, along with many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her brothers Donald and Kenneth Jessup Jr.

Visitation will be held from 4-8 pm Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at Jamestown United Methodist Church, 59218 CR 3, Elkhart, Ind. 46517. There will also be one hour of calling prior to the 10 am funeral service at Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Osceola on Thursday, April 4, 2013.   Friends and family will meet at 2:00 pm Thursday at Mission Hill Cemetery, 61453 M51, Niles, Mich., for the interment.

Sharon was a graduate of Dowagiac High School, class of 1957.  She attended Cass County Normal and Western Michigan University. She was employed as a teacher and substitute teacher in Michigan and taught and worked with the Adult Education Program at St. Vincent DePaul in Elkhart.

She enjoyed knitting and crocheting, playing the piano, attending Jimtown High School sporting events, and going for walks.  She was a longtime member of the Jamestown United Methodist Church, where she was actively involved in the ladies groups.  She also volunteered her time and was active with 12 step social support groups for many years.
