Driver dies following crash

CASSOPOLIS — A Dowagiac man who struck a tree Friday died the following morning at Borgess Medical Center, Kalamazoo.
Edward Schoff, 58, of Dowagiac, passed away at 6 a.m. on Saturday, March 30, 2013, at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo.
Sheriff Joseph Underwood Jr. reported that deputies of the Cass County Sheriff’s Office responded to a single-vehicle traffic crash on Dailey Road and Beeson Street in LaGrange Township.
The crash, which occurred on March 29 at 6:55 a.m. was the result of a pick-up truck driven by Schoff leaving the roadway and striking a tree.
Schoff was extricated from the vehicle and airlifted to Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo. Schoff was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash. Alcohol was not a factor. Assisting at the scene were Cassopolis Fire Department Life Care Ambulance and AirCare. The crash remains under investigation.
