The Niles baseball team will take part in the Coveleski Stadium Baseball Tournament Saturday at the Cove.

The Vikings will take on Penn at 10 a.m. in the tournament opener, while LaPorte will face Northridge immediately following.

The consolation game is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. with the championship game to follow.

Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for students and $3 for senior citizens. Pre-school children will be admitted free.

The gates at Coveleski Stadium will open at 9 a.m.

The Vikings have a few holes to fill this year, but on the mound Niles should be solid.

Returning to the hill for the Vikings are Mitchell Dehn (6-2, 1.96 ERA) and Tate Brawley (5-1, 2.03 ERA).

Also expected to see time on the mound for Niles are Jake Brentlinger, Tate Rudlaff, Tyler Clutter, Chris Mangus, Gaige Nichols, Chris Schiele and Brad Miller.

Nichols, Schiele and Miller all pitched for the JV squad last season.

The Vikings will also be trying to cut down on their strikeouts this season. Last year Niles’ walks-to-strikeout ratio was 103-214.
