Virginia Marazita, 86, of Oak Street in Niles, died at 8:25 p.m. on Friday, March 22, 2013 at Riveridge Manor in Niles following an extended illness.

She was born on July 22, 1926 in Niles to Frank and Josephine (Tignanelli) Marazita. She graduated from Niles High School, attended Saint Mary’s College in Notre Dame, Ind., and lived in Niles, on Oak Street all of her life. She was employed for several years in the family business, Veni Sweet Shop on Main Street and Third.

Miss Marazita was a member of Saint Mark Catholic Church in Niles. As a young

lady, she enjoyed playing tennis and won the Niles City Championship one year.

She was also proficient in oil painting, preferring to do portraits and taught games and crafts at the Niles City Parks summer programs.

She was preceded in death by her parents and by a 3- year- old sister, Mary; and brothers, Ernie, Joseph, Dominic, Paul, John, Tony, and Al; and by two nieces, Lisa and Josie.

Surviving family includes her brothers, Phil (and Eleanor) Marazita of Lansing,

and Warren (and Mary) Marazita, of Niles; sisters- in-law Kathleen (Mrs. Paul) Marazita, Irene (Mrs. John) Marazita, and Delphine (Mrs. Tony) Marazita; many

nieces and nephews of two generations; and a wonderful circle of caregivers and friends from her long stay at Riveridge Manor.

The Mass of Christian Burial for Virginia Marazita will be celebrated after Holy Week at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 4, 2013, at Saint Mark Catholic Church in Niles by the Rev. Thomas King, C.S.C. of the parish. Committal Rites will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Niles.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the church beginning at 10 a.m. on Thursday. Contributions in memory of Virginia may be made to Saint Mark Catholic Church or to Hospice at Home.

Arrangements were made at the Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles.
