The weather had no effect on the Brandywine girls tennis team Saturday as it hosted its annual indoor tournament at the Lakeland Athletic Club.

The Bobcats easily picked up the victory, scoring 31 points. Runner-up Galesburg-Augusta finished with 19 points, while Constantine and South Haven were third and fourth with 16 and 14 points respectively.

Brandywine swept the doubles flights and won all but one flight championship.

Winning singles titles for the Bobcats were Jessica Blank, Alissa Gamble and Alicia Prescott.

Doubles champions were Mackenzie Shelton and Ashley DeJonge; Ali Srmek and Rachel Gibpson; Cassidy Purucker and Ember Brant; and Katie Rose and Caitlyn Cummins.

“Due to the weather, we have been limited to practice drills,” Brandywine coach Joe Marazita said. “So, overall I was pleased with our performance. I was impressed with Alicia Prescott’s debut as she only gave up three games in two matches and our doubles teams only gave up eight games in eight matches.

“It was great our kids finally got to play because with this lousy weather, we might not play again until after spring break.”

Brandywine is scheduled to play three times this week, but Monday’s match against cross-town rival Niles has already been postponed due to weather.

The Bobcats are supposed to host a doubleheader Wednesday against Kalamazoo Hackett at 4 p.m. and Eau Claire at 5:45. The forecast for Wednesday calls for sunny and dry conditions, but temperatures below 40 degrees.

Brandywine was without starters Jessy Cooper and Abby Cole Saturday.
