A Niles High School student is heading to Lexington, Ky., to compete in the 2013 National FFA Convention in October.

Ele Hein, a Niles junior, was part of the Cassopolis FFA team that won the Parliamentary Procedure event at the state FFA convention held March 7-9 in East Lansing.

It will be Hein’s first trip to FFA nationals.

“It’s exciting,” she said. “More than going to nationals, I am looking forward to practicing with my team everyday. That’s when I have the best time with everyone.”

With just five members, Cass FFA’s parliamentary procedure team was the smallest in the field. The team included Ross Beatty High School students Cameron Hayden, chairman; Courtney Kuemin, secretary; Emily Waldschmidt, floor; and Jacob Roth, floor. Hein was a member of the floor.

During Parliamentary Procedure, teams conduct a mock chapter meeting to demonstrate their knowledge of basic parliamentary law and the correct use parliamentary procedures.

The topic for the Cass FFA team was water safety.

Hein said the team would practice daily until FFA nationals, Oct. 30 to Nov. 2.
