Frances Leta Gard, 89

Born: Feb. 5, 1924

Died: March 11, 2013

 

Leta’s life began on Feb. 5, 1924, in Wayne, Mich., daughter of Ebert and Frances O’ Donahue.

She was united in marriage to Earl Way Gard on Aug. 29, 1943, in Cass County. Her husband preceded her in death on April 27, 1976.

Leta was a very active lady. She was a waitress, cashier and lastly, she worked at Borgess-Lee Memorial Hospital in the Dietary Department.

Leta was an avid bowler and golfer. She enjoyed making wedding cakes, dancing in her younger years and being with her grandchildren.

Leta was a hard worker; she had struggled in the last years of her life. Now she is at peace.

Her loving family includes: her children, Phyllis Johnson of Ocala, Fla., Rex Gard of South Bend, Ind., Vickie (Bill) Schuur of Dowagiac, Deborah McCuddy of Dowagiac and Earl Gard of Cassopolis; 22 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and sister, Evelyn McMasters.

Leta passed away on March 11, 2013, at Borgess-Lee Memorial Hospital in Dowagiac.

She was preceded in death by children Terry W. Gard, Jerry Gard and Linda Sheehan; and brothers, Paul, Leroy, Gene, Nolan and Robert Lawrence.

Her family will gather with friends on Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at Yazel-Clark Chapel, where her funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. with Pastor Terry Perkins officiating.

Burial will be in Mission Hills Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions in her name may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association.
