Ravish, Burandt, Higley all win first round matches

AUBURN HILLS — Defending Division 4 state runner-up Chanc Ravish of Brandywine won is first match at the MHSAA Individual Finals at The Palace of Auburn Hills Friday.

Ravish pinned Marlette’s Nate Strauel in 4:47 to advance to Saturday’s quarterfinals.

Both Jesse and Paul Lochmondy lost opening round matches.

Jesse Lochmondy was decisioned by Clay Ragon of Dansville 13-2, while Paul Lochmondy lost to Chase Siersema of Hesperia 12-2.

Niles’ Casey Burandt won his first round match in Division 2 as scored a technical fall over Warren Woods-Tower’s Demitrius Reid, 17-1.

Burandt is the only Niles wrestling to win so far Brendon Meek was defeated by Jon Wellman of New Boston-Huron 17-11, Nicholas Zimmerman was defeated by Zeeland East’s Brandon Tresemer 8-7 and Darek Bullock-Mills was defeated by Bay City Western’s Thomas Schoenherr 7-0.

Edwardsburg freshman Michael Higley decisioned Corunna’s Tristan Serbus 10-7 at 103 pounds, while senior Michael Kempton was decisioned by Lowell’s Jordan Hall 14-5.

In Division 3, Buchanan’s Colin Wheetley and Jeff Mucha both lost first round matches.

Wheetley was pinned by Birch Run’s Damian Johnson in 1:07, while Mucha lost a 6-5 decision to Nate Henke of Richmond.

Dowagiac junior Tristan Howard was unable to wrestle due to medical issues.
