Lila Louise Sullivan, nee Skinner, passed away Thursday morning Feb. 21, 2013, at St. Joseph Medical Center Mishawaka, Indiana. She was born Dec. 31, 1918, in Shelburne, Ind., to David L. Skinner and Gertrude Pearl (Owens) Skinner and was the third eldest of nine children.

She lived in Buchanan, where she was eventually joined by her six sisters, two brothers and father. She and her sisters owned and operated “The Buchanan Grill,” which was a hub of activity especially during the World War II years.

On Feb. 17, 1952, she married William T. Sullivan. Together, they had two children, Kimberly Sullivan Scarpone, husband James, and Timothy Quinn Sullivan, wife Michele.

She had three grandsons, Creighton Harwood Scarpone, Brendan Taylor Scarpone and William Quinn Sullivan. Her children and grandchildren survive her.

Also surviving are four of her six sisters, Mrs. Howard (Emma Lee) Huggett, of Charlotte, N.C., Mrs. Gordon (Jean) Schneider ,of Buchanan, Mrs. John (Murriel) Jerue, of Plantation, Fla., and Mrs. Michael (Mildred) Pridavka, of Buchanan.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; brothers, Loren and Robert L. Skinner; and her sisters, Lois M. Skinner and Mrs. Ralph (Mary) Banke.

A memorial service for Lila is being planned for mid-May 2013.

The family is being served by Swem Chapel in Buchanan.
