For the 42nd year, the Presbyterian Women will hold their Salad Smorgasbord and Style Show.

This year’s show will be March 21 at 6:30 p.m. in the Edwardsburg High School gymnasium. Tickets, which are held to around 400, are sold in advance and go quickly. Tickets are $8 per person and go on sale Feb. 24 at approximately 11:30 a.m. after church service downstairs in the Fellowship Hall of the Presbyterian Church.

Tickets may also be purchased by contacting Patty Patzer at 699-7552, Judy Boepple at 669-6867 or Joann Mackling at 663-2045.

The event started 42 years ago as a fundraiser with many women in the community coming for the “famous hot chicken salad.” The ladies of the church met for a potluck dinner at the church manse and from there plans were made to make it an annual event.

The event grew quickly and just a short period of time outgrew the church and it was moved to the American Legion. It didn’t take long before that facility was too small and it moved to the Edwardsburg High School.

Nearly all the female members of the Presbyterian Church are involved in putting on the fundraiser. They make 14 large pots of hot chicken salad each year. They also bring their favorite salads and friend of the church also take part by bringing their favorite salads.

The male members of the church are also involved. They take care of setting up the salad buffet, serving drinks and cleaning up.

Once the preparation is done, the ladies of the church can sit back, enjoy some salad, watch the style show and wait and see if they can win won of over 100 door prizes that are given away throughout the evening.

This year’s theme is “Hawaiian Dreams.”

Each year, the members gather and stitch together a quilt. The quilt, which will given away in a drawning, is centered around Hawii and its brilliant colors.

Tickets for a chance to win the quilt are $1 each or six for $5. Tickets will be sold throughout the event.

Guests are asked to bring a non-perishable food item, which will be given to the Edwardsburg Food Pantry.
