The Niles wrestling team will take on Tecumseh in the Division 2 State Quarterfinals in Battle Creek at the Kellogg Arena Friday night.
The Vikings (33-1) were given the No. 3 seed Sunday by the Michigan High School Athletic Association. Tecumseh (30-12) is the No. 6 seed. The two teams will wrestle at 7:45 p.m.
Top-ranked and defending champion St. Johns (19-4) received the No. 1 seed and will a face Mason (30-8), which was given the No. 8 seed.
Lowell, ranked No. 2 in the final Michigangrappler.com poll, will face No. 7 Greenville (28-4) with the winner facing the winner of the Niles-Tecumseh match in the semifinals Saturday at 11:45 a.m.
Lowell is 17-6 on the season.
“The seeding went well,” Niles coach Todd Hesson said. “I thought they were very generous to us. Taking St. Johns out of it for a second, Lowell and Allegan I thought were next. Tecumseh had also been ranked as high as third throughout most of the season.
“I think the match-ups went as well as could be expected. Avoiding St. Johns and Allegan was big. I was glad we didn’t have to face Mason a second time as it would have been tough to beat them again. I think the remaining teams are fairly equal. The Tecumseh-Niles match-up is good. We are very similar on paper. It should be interesting.”
The other match-up pits No. 4 see Warren Lincoln (30-4) against No. 5 seed Allegan (30-5).
The Division 2 state title match will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday.
