OLIVET — Dowagiac junior Tristan Howard captured the Division 3 Individual District wrestling championship Saturday at Olivet High School.

Howard defeated Derrick Hostetler of Comstock 3-1 in the finals.

Dowagiac senior Matt Lyle finished fourth to advance to Saturday’s individual regionals at Whitehall.

After receiving a first-round bye, Howard pinned Brad Duck of Battle Creek Pennfield in 28 seconds in the quarterfinals and then decisioned Jose Hernandez of Otsego 6-0 to advance to the championship match.

Lyle reached the semifinals before being defeated by eventual district champion Devin Barker of Otsego 14-4. Lyle pinned Pennfield’s Ryan Hammer in 1:32 in his first match and then decisioned Andrew Chapa of Parchment 14-3 in the quarterfinals.
