Man arrested with sawed-off shotgun

A traffic stop in the vicinity of Oak and East Prairie Ronde streets about 10:40 p.m. Wednesday led to the arrest of a Dowagiac area man on drug- and firearm-related charges.

Public Safety Director Tom Atkinson reported that during the traffic stop officers located marijuana on the driver.

Further investigation led police to discover a cut-down, 12-gauge shotgun with ammunition.

The shotgun had been sawed off at the barrel and the handle.

Officers also found more marijuana and seized two knives from the subject and the vehicle.

The 20-year-old male subject was arrested for felony carrying a concealed weapon, felony possession of a short-barreled shotgun and misdemeanor marijuana possession.

The subject was lodged at Cass County Jail in Cassopolis to await arraignment in Fourth District Court.
