An 87-year-old man is dead after a two-vehicle accident on I-94 near M-140 in Watervliet Township Thursday evening.

Robert McCoy, of Benton Harbor, died at a Berrien County hospital after his vehicle was rear-ended by a vehicle driven by Joan Muske, 67, of Watervliet, at 7:37 p.m.

According to an accident report from the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department, the accident happened on the west onramp at the top of the hill. Responders found both vehicles upside down on I-94 near exit 41.

Both vehicles suffered great damage.

The vehicle driven by Muske had two additional passengers inside. Three individuals were taken to Lakeland Hospital Watervliet and one to Lakeland Hospital St. Joseph.

Weather was not a factor and the accident remains under investigation.
