Niles swept by host Lakeshore

STEVENSVILLE — The Niles girls and boys basketball team both came away with losses against host Lakeshore in Big 16 Conference West Division action Tuesday night.

The Vikings (0-10) were defeated by the Lancers in the girls game 53-12, while the boys team lost 69-47.

An off shooting night hurt Niles in its loss to Lakeshore.

The Lancers led 18-5 after one quarter and 32-9 at halftime. To make matters worse, the Vikings were shut out in the third quarter, while the Lancers added 16 more points to open up a 48-9 lead.

Cam Tyler had 18 points to lead Lakeshore and all scorers.

Jazmin Brann led Niles with four points. Elyse Zimmerman and Libby Moody both finished with three points.

 

Boys basketball

The Vikings (2-6) also struggled from the field in the boys game.

Niles was just 18-of-49 (38 percent) in the contest that saw the Lancers grab an 18-7 first quarter lead and never look back.

By halftime Lakeshore had doubled up Niles and took a 34-17 advantage into the locker room at halftime.

The Vikings played better in the second half, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the early deficit.

The Lancers held a 36-30 advantage in second half scoring.

Alex Brown had a game-high 24 points to lead Niles, which also got six points from Jesse Jordan.

Keith Bushwyler led the Lancers with 21 points.
