Barbara Jean Lepel, 69, of Cassopolis, died Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, in Borgess Hospital, Kalamazoo.

She was born March 14, 1943, in East Chicago, Ind., to William and Eathel (Howard) Sullivan. Her parents preceded her in death.

Barbara was a graduate of Highland High School and spent a year at St. Joseph College, Calumet Campus. She moved to Cass County in 1975.

Barbara was a switchboard operator at the Cass County Courthouse for 15 years.

She was then the receptionist at the Cass County Animal Control office for four years, then the legal receptionist at the LaBre Law Office in Edwardsburg for five years.

She was a member of Pleasant View Church of Christ, Cassopolis, and had been active with Barn Swallow Theatre.

Barbara diligently corresponded with men and women serving on active duty in the military. She had many pen pals.

Barbara is survived by her close friend Pam Conley of Cassopolis.
