Nell Ward, 93, of Cassopolis, died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, in Lakeland Community Hospital Niles.

She was born July 16, 1919, in Elberton, Ga., to Frank and Viola (Fortson) Heard.

She married Leonard H. Ward. He preceded her in death. She was also preceded by her parents and four sisters, Elizabeth Cannon, AnnieBurton, Eula Mae Willis and Olar Allen.

Nell was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. She was an excellent cook.

She never met a stranger, and would easily begin talking to any one she met.

Nell lived in the Cass County Medical Care Facility in Cassopolis. The staff remembers hearing her sing as she went down the hall with some of the other residents following her. She was much beloved. She enjoyed the various church groups coming into the facility for worship services.

Nell’s family is very thankful for the wonderful care the staff provided for her.

Nell will be greatly missed by family and friends. She is survived by one sister, Gladys Jones, of Chicago; and a host of nieces and nephews, including nieces Daisy Hervey and Georgia Yarbrough, both of Vandalia.

Family and friends will gather for a memorial service this spring at a date and time to be announced.
