The Cassopolis Board of Education has a vacancy due to the resignation of Jeremy Carlisle, the current board president.

Jeremy Carlisle

The board announced the resignation and vacancy Tuesday morning. Carlisle’s resignation was effective Jan. 8 and was due to personal reasons according to Cassopolis Superintendent Tracy Hertsel.

The position would fill the vacancy from February 2013 to November 2014 when the general election is held.

The candidate who is elected will complete the term, which runs through November 2016.

Applications are available at the school’s website, www.cassopolis.k12.mi.us, or can pick up a form at the main office, 725 Center St. Completed applications may be returned to cmartynowicz@cassopolis.org or by fax at 445-0505.

Completed applications must be received by noon on Jan. 21.

The Board of Education will conduct brief interviews at a special meeting Jan. 21 at 7 p.m. in the Squires Education Center. Action on the board vacancy will be taken at the regular meeting Jan. 28. The new board member will be sworn into office at that time.

Carlisle was appointed to the board in September 2009 to replace Gary Solloway, who resigned. The term was through June 2011.

Carlisle was elected vice president in April 2009 after the resignation of David Weiss. He served as the board’s vice president through 2011-12.

Carlisle took over as president of the board when Christine Locke resigned in June of 2012.

“He was a very strong leader,” Hertsel said. “He will be missed.”
