CASSOPOLIS — Cass County Commissioner Dwight ‘Skip’ Dyes was elected as the new chairperson of the Cass County Board of Commissioners during Thursday’s regular meeting in Cassopolis.

Newcomer Bernie Williamson was elected new vice-chairperson.

Both positions are one-year appointments.

Former commissioner Minnie Macon Warren, last year’s chairperson, lost to E. Clark Cobb in the November general election.

Former commissioner Ed Goodman, who served as the board’s vice-chairperson last year, lost to Bob Wagel in the August primary election.

Due to redistricting, the county’s Board of Commissioners was reduced from 15 seats to seven effective this year.

The smaller board for 2013-2014 includes six incumbents and one newcomer, Williamson, representing District 6.

Representing District 1 is Wagel, District 2 Dixie Ann File, District 3 Dyes, District 4 Roseann Marchetti, District 5 Robert Ziliak and District 7 Cobb.

Cobb is the board’s lone Democrat.
