‘Django Unchained’

Rating: R
Genre: Action, adventure, Western

In this epic action adventure story, a new side of Jamie Foxx is revealed when he takes on the roll of Django, a slave turned bounty hunter after being freed by his mentor, Dr. King Schultz (Christopher Waltz). Dr. Schultz takes Django on one mega, unforgettable adventure to capture a few wanted people and to rescue Django’s wife.

On this ride, they witness countless fights and an over-the-top slave owner.

They soon travel to many towns in order to find out where Django’s wife has been transferred. They find out that slave owner Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio) bought his wife. They then go through some events in order to persuade Candie to get her back.

The first scene was a nice action scene, but within the first five minutes, it was so shockingly graphic, it was a movie that I knew was going to be difficult to watch. Through the whole movie, it gives you a feeling on slavery, and it doesn’t hold back on going all the way.

The images are so graphic parts of the audience looked away from the screen.

All of that fits perfectly within the story line. The movie gets detailed, which is key to its success.

Leonardo DiCaprio and Christopher Waltz are two other examples of what does not fail in “Django Unchained.” These are the two performances that stood out and were done perfectly. They are both already nominated for a Golden Globe, and after watching Django, I understand why. I hear an Academy Award Nomination screaming their names.

Many might wonder why this movie is only rated R. Many might argue it should be NC-17 because the realistic graphics are scary. It’s disturbing and, at some points, might make audience members sick to their stomach. In addition, the “N” word is used in most every sentence in the movie.

Regardless, this is easily one of the best movies of 2012. From acting to screenplay, this movie is a revealing look at the country’s dark past.
