No. 16-ranked Bethel Pilots now 13-3

MISHAWAKA, Ind. — The No. 16-ranked Bethel Pilots kicked off the New Year with a key 71-62 road victory over Mt. Vernon Nazarene in a Crossroads League clash Wednesday.

Bethel (13-3 3-1 Crossroads) was led by the country’s fourth leading scorer Laura Johnson, who finished with a game-high 24 points.

Former Dowagiac standout Katy Stuppy chipped in with 10 points, while former Niles standout Baysia Cox came off the bench and turned in some key minutes for the Pilots.

Stuppy has started all 15 games for the Pilots this season and is averaging 26.4 minutes per contest. She is averaging 7.7 points per game as well as 2.3 rebounds and 3.9 assists per contest. Stuppy also has 35 steals on the season.

Cox has appeared in all 15 games for Bethel and is averaging 3.5 points and 2.2 rebounds off the bench. She also has six blocks.

The Pilots are back in action Saturday when they host No. 7-ranked University of St. Francis at 1 p.m.
