Virginia Jean Spranger, 80, of Howell, passed away at Medilodge of Howell on Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013. She was born July 14, 1932, in Niles, the daughter of Russell T. and Frances L. (Huff) Hart.

She is the beloved wife of the late Rudolph F. Spranger; loving mother of Richard (Linda) Spranger, of Farmington Hills, Nancy Spranger, Jeffrey (Sue) Spranger and Alan (Elnore) Spranger, all of Howell; and grandmother of Nicholas Spranger. She is also survived by siblings, Wayne (Jean Ann) Hart of Goshen, Ind., Bruce (Imogene) Hart, of Niles, and LouAnn DeVall, of Niles. She was preceded in death by her brother, Richard Hart. Virginia was an integral part in the creation of the Hartland Area Youth Athletic Association (HAYAA).

She was actively involved in Hartland athletics for more than 30 years and the HAYAA baseball complex is named in her honor. She was also formerly active with Silver Spurs, a square dance club. Visitation will be Friday 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.with funeral services Saturday, Jan. 5, at 11 a.m. at MacDonald’s Funeral Home, Howell, (517) 546-2800. Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery.
