NILES – Barbara J. Strauss, 81, of Wells Street in Niles died on Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012 at Riveridge Manor of natural causes.

She was born on Dec. 25, 1930 in Buchanan to Lloyd & Carrie Dokey.

On Dec. 11, 1954, she married Richard H. Strauss in Buchanan, who preceded her in death on Feb. 24, 2009.

Barbara retired from Buchanan Community Schools after many years working as a Secretary for the Superintendent’s office.  She enjoyed volunteering at Lakeland Hospital, staying active at the Niles Senior Center, many book clubs, and walking with her husband.  She was a member of the Buchanan Christian Church where she served as a Sunday School Teacher.

Barbara is survived by nieces, Judy & Jane Dokey, Janet Webber and Linda Sheets; and nephews, Steve Dokey and Jeff Cole.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Lloyd Dokey and sister, Betty Crawford.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Dec. 21, 2012 at Hoven Funeral Home, Inc. in Buchanan, with visitation one hour before the service in the funeral home.
