A 27-year-old Dowagiac resident was robbed of his wallet Sunday morning while walking in the 300 block of West Wayne Street.

Dowagiac Public Safety Director Tom Atkinson reported that officers were called at 8:31 a.m. Sunday.

The victim said he was approached from behind by a subject who demanded his money. The subject removed the victim’s wallet and ran off.

The victim said he turned in time to see two black males, possibly in their late teens, running from the scene.

An undisclosed amount of money was taken. The wallet was later recovered in the area.

Officers were assisted at the scene by the Cass County Sheriff’s Office and Dowagiac Police Department’s canine unit.

The incident remains under investigation.
