Alcohol is a suspected factor in an auto accident on Chestnut Street near South Front Street early Saturday.

Dowagiac Public Safety Director Tom Atkinson reported that around 1:50 a.m. Saturday, a city police officer located the injury accident.

An officer on patrol happened upon Ulises Munoz, 30, still inside his vehicle westbound on Chestnut Street. The vehicle crashed into a tree.

Pride Care Ambulance was called to the scene and took Munoz to Borgess-Lee Memorial Hospital for treatment of apparent minor injuries.

Multiple witnesses heard the accident, but police arrived before they were able to call and report the crash.

Airbags deployed. A seatbelt appeared to have been worn.

This matter remains under investigation by Dowagiac Police Department.
