William R. “Bill” Wantz, 86, of Benton Harbor, passed away on Dec. 9, 2012, at his home after a long illness, with his family by his side.

He was born Oct. 20, 1926, in Channing, and lived in this area for more than 70 years. He was a 35-year Mason, U.S. Army veteran, retired from Clark Equipment Co. and was a member of Peace Lutheran Church of St. Joseph.

Preceding him in death is his first wife, Willmina Lewis. and second wife, Marjorie Mattner.

Surviving family include his wife, Millie Gast-Wantz; daughters, Holly (Gary) Simons and Chris (Jay) Lisonbee; stepson, Jack (Susan) Gast; stepdaughters, Sharon Carlson, Rita Wohler and Dawn Richardson; six grandchildren, Lindsay (Brenton) Wahl, Sara (Riley) Richert, Jason (Melissa) Gast, Jeffrey Gast, Mike (Jamie) Wohler and Jessica Wantz; five great-grandchildren, Ella and Colin Wahl, Lily Gast, Riley and Jack Wohler; and many cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 12, at Peace Lutheran Church, 3590 Lincoln Ave, St. Joseph, with visitation from 9:30 a.m. to the time of the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Hospice at Home Inc. of St. Joseph.
