Dick Forbes, 86, of Niles, passed away at Lakeland Specialty Hospital in Berrien Center, Michigan on Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012.

Dick was born on July 13, 1926 to the late Raymond and Irene (Miller) Forbes in Niles, Mich.  After school Dick joined the United States Army where he proudly served his country.  Dick worked at United Dairy in Niles for many years before he went to work for Williams Lumber.  On Dec. 29, 1956 Dick wed the love of his life, Yolanda Mahan at a ceremony in Ferndale, Mich., she passed in 1985.  Dick was always keeping busy so when he retired from Williams Lumber, after nearly 30 years of service, he spent time maintaining his mammoth H.O. Train set that took up his entire basement and rooting on the University of Michigan.  The trains weren’t enough to keep busy so he went back to work part time at Williams Lumber.  Dick will be missed by many, especially his family and his “boy” Tigger.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Yolanda and sister Norene Burkhart.

Dick is survived by his children Susan (Jeff) Anderson of Niles and John (Archie Austin) Forbes of Camas, Wash., grandchildren Stephanie (John) Baker of Niles, Sara Anderson of Niles and three great grandchildren Derek, April and Melody.

Funeral services for Dick will be held on Friday, Dec. 7, 2012 at Mission Hills Memorial Chapel at Noon with a time of visitation one hour prior.

Memorial donations may be made in Dick’s memory to the Berrien County Animal Shelter or Hospice at Home.
